Hulton Bridge Replacement

A bridge replacement design with improved Pedestrian Safety.
The Challenge:
PennDOT, Allegheny County, and The Borough of Oakmont wanted to replace the aging Jonathan Hulton Bridge, built in 1908, with a new structure prior to the 2016 US Open at nearby Oakmont Country Club.
Our Solution:
How We Helped:
The Viz Team developed both Preliminary Engineering renderings during the exploratory phase of the project, as well as Final Design renderings four years later. The former provided dozens of images used to review various color, formliner, and lightingoptions; while the latter provided several high-resolution photo-realistic renderings displayed at Public Involvement events for the project. Using InRoads DTM data combined with PASDA contours to create the existing terrain, detailed 3D CAD models were developed and imported into 3DS Max, where significant additional 3D modeling was completed. Final Design images were rendered using the Vue (now a Bentley product) engine's advanced atmospheric lighting combined with the power of VRay, and as a result no post processing was required on the final images.
